The Benefits of a Micronutrient Panel

Micronutrients, an umbrella term used to refer to both vitamins and minerals, provide vital support to almost every part of your body. Micronutrients keep your health strong and your body functioning smoothly. If you suffer from vitamin or mineral deficiencies, your risks of disease, injury, and other chronic and acute health problems increase.

Your body gets many of the vitamins and minerals it needs through your diet, and you can use supplements to boost low levels. But how do you know if you have micronutrient deficiencies?

A micronutrient panel provides you with the information you need to keep your health and nutrition balanced. With this test, we can identify any issues with your micronutrient levels.

At Broadway Chiropractic and Wellness, we offer micronutrient panels to patients from our office in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. We can also advise you on the next steps, including supplemental treatments and further testing if needed.

What do micronutrients do?

Micronutrients contribute to almost every part of your physical function. Vitamins help your body with energy production, blood clotting, and the immune system. Minerals contribute to growth processes, your bone health, and your internal fluid balance

Micronutrients help maintain your:

Some vitamins and minerals also act as antioxidants, protecting your cells against damage associated with cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and heart disease.

Identifying deficiencies and toxicities

If you're taking in too little or too much of a given micronutrient, you can throw off the balance of your body's heath. Micronutrient deficiencies, or more rarely toxicities, weaken your body and increase your risk of damage and disease.

Deficiencies in vitamins D, B12, and A, as well as minerals like calcium and iron, are common in men, women, and children across the United States. Micronutrient toxicities appear less frequently and typically involve vitamins A, D, E, and K, which are fat-soluble and can build up in your liver and tissues.

A simple blood test

With a micronutrient panel, we can quickly and accurately gain important information about your whole-body health. We draw a sample of your blood, which we then send in for extensive laboratory testing. The results comprehensively identify excesses and deficiencies in your micronutrient levels.

If needed, our team at Broadway Chiropractic and Wellness can recommend further tests to confirm vitamin or mineral imbalances, as well as recommending treatment options.

While supplemental treatments can sometimes help address micronutrient issues, food sources are the best way to boost your vitamin or mineral levels. If you've been taking any supplements, you should discontinue them for the week before you come in for your blood draw.
