Food Sensitivities Could Be the Hidden Cause of Your Weight Gain, Headaches, or Digestive Problems

Are you gaining weight despite eating healthy and exercising? Or is it hard for you to lose weight? Do you get headaches or have digestive problems often? Believe it or not, food sensitivities could be the hidden cause of your weight gain, headaches, or digestive issues.

Here at Broadway Chiropractic and Wellness Center, we take a whole-body approach to wellness, which means we help our clients get healthy from the inside out. We offer a range of treatment options that include chiropractic care, physical therapy, and massage therapy, but we also help our clients learn about nutrition and food sensitivities that could be affecting their health.

The difference between food allergies and sensitivities

If you have a food allergy, you’d probably know it by now because you would break out in hives, have swelling in your lips, mouth, or throat, or even have trouble breathing when you eat certain foods. Food allergies can be life-threatening.

Food sensitivities, on the other hand, are not as obvious. You may feel bloated or gassy after eating a problem food, or you may not notice anything. Food sensitivities can affect you for up to 72 hours after you eat something, so if you feel tired, have brain fog, or have a headache, you may not associate it with what you ate a day or two ago.

Common food sensitivities include:

If you get an upset stomach every time you eat eggs, run to the bathroom or feel congested when you have ice cream, or get bloated every time you eat wheat bread, your body is telling you something.

Even foods that are considered healthy can be harmful if they cause an inflammatory response in your body, so pay attention. Keep a diary to track what you eat and monitor how your body reacts. Take it a step further by getting tested. That way, you know exactly what foods to watch out for. It doesn’t mean you have to give up your favorite foods forever, but you may need to cut back if you want to feel better.

What about weight loss?

By reducing or eliminating problem foods from your diet, you reduce the inflammation in your body and allow your body to heal. As it heals, the good bacteria in your gut flourish, and hormones regulate bodily functions better. As a result, you may finally start to lose weight.

You may also look less puffy as your body gets rid of excess water, and you may have better mental focus and clarity, be less congested, and have fewer headaches.

Testing for food sensitivities

The best way to find out if you have any food sensitivities is to get tested. We offer a food allergy and sensitivity panel that identifies foods that cause a reaction in your body. Once you know what they are, you can adjust your diet accordingly and take better control of your health.

At Broadway Chiropractic and Wellness Center in Manhattan, we partner with you on your journey to optimal health and wellness. To learn more about any of our services, including food sensitivity testing, contact our office or request an appointment with our online booking tool.
